Your window to preserve these records is closing
Most microfilm archives from the 1970s-1990s are now showing signs of degradation. Without digital conversion, these records will be permanently lost.
Assess Your Microfilm CollectionAcetate-based film releases acetic acid, causing progressive deterioration. Once started, degradation accelerates exponentially.
Silver particles migrate to film surface creating mirror-like spots. Common in archives with humidity fluctuations.
Image layer separates from base, causing permanent image loss. Often irreversible once visible.
Color microfilm loses density over time. Cyan dye typically fades first, shifting images to red.

We offer lease and rental options through established equipment financing partners. Operating leases are popular for avoiding capital expenditure. We can structure monthly payments that fit your budget, often including service coverage in the lease.
Our scanners support all common microfilm formats: 16mm and 35mm roll film (open reels, cartridges, cassettes), microfiche (standard, COM, jacket), aperture cards, and 35mm slides. The FlexScan also supports 70mm film with an optional carrier. Different carriers are available for each format.
The ViewScan 5 is a desktop scanner designed for end-user access—research, lookups, on-demand scanning at 1 second per page. Production scanners (FlexScan, Eclipse 2000) are built for high-volume conversion projects, processing 400-2000 pages per minute. Choose based on your primary use case: daily access vs. bulk conversion.
Yes. Every scanner purchase includes free on-site installation, film carrier setup, software configuration, and operator training. We calibrate the scanner for your specific film types and configure output settings for your workflow. Follow-up training is available if needed.
Common signs include vinegar smell (acetate degradation), silver mirroring (metallic spots), fading or loss of contrast, brittleness, and physical warping. If you notice any of these, your film needs immediate attention. We can assess your collection and recommend whether in-house scanning or service bureau conversion is appropriate.
Standard output includes PDF, searchable PDF (with OCR), PDF/A (archival), TIFF, and JPEG. The scanner software supports custom naming conventions, folder structures, and batch processing. For PHMC compliance, we configure PDF/A-1a output with appropriate metadata.
We provide local service from our Emmaus, PA facility. Service calls are typically scheduled within 24 hours. We stock film carriers, lamps, and common parts for fast turnaround. Extended service agreements are available for budget predictability.
