THE LEADER IN SCANNING, INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND BUSINESS PROCESS AUTOMATION
Aperture Card Scanning Services
High Quality Image Conversions
Aperture cards were a highly effective means to save storage space, create a backup of vital drawings, and still conform to retention and legal mandates. Massive volumes drawings are still stored on microfilm throughout all types of organizations.
However the limited access nature of aperture cards - the need for a reader printer - makes retrieving information from them seem very unwieldy in the digital age. Further, aperture card reader printers are aging which results in limited availability of parts and supplies. Organizations are then either faced with investing in an aperture card scanner or hoping to extend the life of their existing equipment beyond the retention of their drawings.
An alternative solution is to convert all of your aperture cards, or at least the most active, to digital images. These images can then be stored on a local machine, hosted via the web or our cloud-based services, or formatted for import into your document management system.
Scanning aperture cards is a complex task. Cards can contain 16 or 35MM film in a variety of formats; single 35MM images (the most common), multiple 35MM images, multiple 16MM images, negative, positive, etc. There are any number of variations and they often vary throughout a collection.
Further, aperture card image quality varies significantly. Skewed images, varying densities (too light or dark, or both), lack of contrast, and a variety of other imperfections are very common. Further, there is typically no index except that which is typed on the cards.
For all of these reasons, aperture card scanning requires highly specialized equipment and A highly skilled, experienced staff to prepare, capture, index and quality control large or even small volumes of cards.
Reynolds Conversion Services Department has been capturing documents for over 47 years. Our staff averages 17+ years of experience. We have the experience to handle both small, simple projects and large, technically complex projects requiring an in-depth knowledge of your drawings.
Our process begins by reviewing with you important details about how your drawings are utilized;
-
Who references the drawings
-
Which image features are most important
-
How frequently are they retrieved
-
How are they indexed
-
How long are they retained
-
What are the access/security criteria
-
What are your regulatory requirements
-
Will drawings need to be accessed during the conversion process
These and dozens of other criteria form the basis of our specifications for each project.
From this point forward we make the process simple. Once we have established the project specifications and submitted samples for evaluation, our staff takes over and your time can be spent fulfilling your regular duties, not managing a scanning project.
Regardless of your industry, our staff has extensive experience with a wide array of organizational drawing types; manufacturers, government, libraries, historical societies, higher education, utilities, engineering firms, service providers, and many others.
Efficient, high quality document scanning projects that will conform to user, regulatory and industry standards are our specialty. Let our staff effectively manage your scanning projects.
